Some strong trends exist in the area of office and workspace ergonomics:

1. Personal computers increasingly being replaced by laptops

Laptop computers have seen rapid technological development. Increasingly powerful, light and compact, they are the technological equals of the PC. For this reason, more and more companies are choosing the laptop as a replacement for the desktop computer.

2. Computer usage continues to increase

With the popularity of the Internet, e-mail, games, DVD etc, the use of computers for both work and leisure continues to increase.

3. Increasing attention being devoted to laptop ergonomics

As a result of working more and more hours on laptops, people need to do this in an ergonomically responsible way. Many laptop users are taking measures to improve their laptop workstation. A laptop holder with integrated document holder, an optical mouse and an external keyboard are seen by many laptop users as basic necessities.

4. Home workstations

Working at home is on the rise. Ergonomic workstations are just as important here as at the office. Although legislation governing working conditions assures a reasonable working environment at the office, home workstations are often found lacking. Chairs and desks often don’t meet these requirements. What’s more, a number of items such as a good document holder, a monitor stand or a laptop holder are not being used here at all.

With these trends in mind, we have compiled a number of resources, which will help highlight the issues surrounding office ergonomics and how Facio can help you to effect positive change in your organisation. We hope that you will find these free online resources of use.
